Giovedì 8 luglio 2010 un ragazzo proveniente dall’Ohio, si è accomodato su una sedia all’interno di una piccola palestra di Greenwich, Connecticut. Tutto normale, tutto tranquillo, sorrisi e battute con i presenti, come può capitare a chiunque di noi quando si sta tra amici. Poi però, si è accesa quella lucina rossa. Allora tutto è cambiato, quella palestra è diventata un set, un palcoscenico, o forse un patibolo.
Un sacco (ma proprio un sacco) di persone dalle loro case, nei bar ed in alcune piazze di due città dell’Ohio, Cleveland ed Akron, si sono ritrovate ad osservare quel ragazzo in jeans e camicia. Quel piccolo led rosso ha trasformato quel venticinquenne seduto su una seggiola, in un buco nero pronto ad attirare a se tutto ciò che gli ruotava intorno. Lui lo voleva, e così è stato.
LeBron ha scelto Miami. LeBron non ha scelto New York e neppure Chicago. LeBron ha tradito Cleveland.
Questo il verdetto, questo cosa abbiamo udito, questo ciò di cui parlano giornali, siti specializzati ed appassionati. Anche io ho parlato di questo con amici e colleghi.
Poi però, l’altra sera, mentre facevo due tiri nel mio ‘ground dietro casa, a distanza di due settimane dalla Decisione, sono riuscito a vedere la situazione più profondamente, forse più in maniera reale.
La scelta che ha portato LeBron a Miami ha intorno a se tante persone, giocatori, società ed allenatori, un universo in movimento, perenne ed incessante.
Osservando questa realtà mi è stato impossibile non vedere, lampante, come l’unico vero sconfitto sia proprio James.
Guardiamoci intorno. C’è Wade, che ha firmato un nuovo contratto con la Sua franchigia, un giocatore che è una bandiera per gli Heat e che, non dimentichiamolo, porta già un anello al dito. Per lui quest’avventura e solamente una… nuova avventura. Lui ha già vinto, ha già dimostrato.
Poi c’è Bosh, un giocatore dannatamente sopravvalutato, lo ha dimostrato a Toronto e lo ha confermato la scelta di giocare a Miami, con due stelle grazie alle quali brillerà di luce riflessa.
C’è Pat Riley che ha dimostrato di sapersi muovere come pochi altri presidenti. C’è New York che sta dimostrando proprio in questi giorni uno spirito vitale da grande società: vogliono un roster vincente e lo avranno, con o senza LeBron.E poi Chicago che, a parer mio, non ha mai creduto veramente in un approdo nella “Windy City” del Prescelto e ha costruito un’ottima squadra, giovane e dinamica, con l’eccellente innesto di Carlos Boozer al fianco della stellina Derrick Rose.
Infine Cleveland, anima tradita, che difficilmente riuscirà nel “sogno” (utopia?) del suo presidente di vincere un campionato prima del Traditore, ma che sicuramente non esce da perdente dopo il teatrino orchestrato da ESPN e James.

Sicuramente, in questo panorama di vincitori, il vincitore supremo sarà lo spettacolo, lo Show, e quindi l’NBA; le giocate che una squadra come Miami potrà mettere sul campo, le nuove rivalità che durante la stagione avranno libero sfogo (già mi vedo LeBron nella Quicken Loans Arena o al Madison), i diritti tv delle partite stesse, i gadget, cappellini, magliette…
Sicuramente “creare” una squadra come Miami, la più amata ma al tempo stesso la più odiata della lega, non può che eleggere la NBA come vincitrice assoluta.
Ma LeBron?
E si, LeBron, dopo aver osservato tutti i vincitori che devono ringraziare la sua Decisione, non può che rimanere solo, solo sul suo patibolo.
Si, perchè lui è l’unico sconfitto. Il giocatore più mediaticamente seguito dopo i fasti di Michael Jordan, coLui che porta sulla sua pelle il nome de “il Prescelto – Chosen One”, l’uomo da cui un intero movimento sportivo si aspettava una grande scelta … cosa fa? …fa la scelta più facile.
Come un bambino che non riuscendo a vincere con un videogioco, per porvi rimedio, invece che impegno e dedizione, passa al livello “easy”.
Come un mediocre adolescente che non riesce a fare canestro e allora chiede al papà di abbassarlo e di comprargli una palla più piccola.
Come un piccolo uomo sopravvalutato da un’intera nazione che non riuscendo a vincere un anello da solo (come il suo soprannome richiederebbe) chiede aiuto alla quarta e quinta scelta del suo stesso draft 2003.
Che si sia tifosi o meno di Lebron James, non si può non ammettere che abbia fatto la scelta più facile, più “easy”, una scelta accettabile da un Bosh qualsiasi, ma non dal Re.
